Uzbekistan and Spain Strengthen Cultural Ties through Library Cooperation

Ambassador of Uzbekistan Farrukh Tursunov met with Luisa Mora, Director of the Islamic Library “Felix Maria Pareja” of the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID).
The Ambassador presented the library with the books “Tuzuklar” (Uzbek state legal codes linked to the heritage of Amir Temur) and “Samples of Oriental Calligraphy and the Art of Miniature”, and also shared information about Uzbekistan’s modern achievements and vast opportunities.
In turn, Luisa Mora showcased the library’s existing collection of publications on the history and cultural heritage of Uzbekistan.
During the meeting, the parties discussed promising areas of cooperation and reached an agreement to continue collaboration in exchanging informational and book resources. They proposed support for the digitization of Uzbek and Spanish book collections, as well as the organization of joint seminars, masterclasses, and other educational and cultural events. Special attention was given to the initiative of signing a Memorandum of Cooperation between the Islamic Library and the Alisher Navoi National Library of Uzbekistan, which could become an important step toward institutionalizing bilateral cultural cooperation.
It was noted that expanding cultural contacts will help build trust and increase tourism and investment interest in Uzbekistan. Digitizing rare editions, holding joint events, and establishing an institutional partnership through the Memorandum will create potential for the development of educational technologies and the book industry. Strategic cooperation in the humanitarian field will also contribute to attracting foreign students, researchers, and investors, while expanding the export of educational and cultural services.
