Prospects for Establishing a Multilateral Cooperation Platform between Uzbekistan and Central American Countries Discussed

Ambassador of Uzbekistan Farrukh Tursunov met with the former President of the Central American Parliament (PARLACEN), Deputy Silvia García Polanco, and the Special Envoy of the Presidency of the Central American Court at the United Nations, David Balsa.
During the talks, the parties discussed the expansion of inter-parliamentary cooperation between Uzbekistan and the countries of Central America. They emphasized the importance of establishing stable and systematic contacts between the legislative bodies of the two regions to strengthen mutual understanding and trust.
The meeting also explored the prospects for creating an expert platform in the "Central Asia – Central America" format. It was noted that such a format would facilitate the development of practical mechanisms for cooperation, help identify areas of mutual interest, and lay a solid foundation for institutional dialogue.
As a follow-up to this initiative, a proposal was made to launch a mechanism for holding a full-fledged interregional forum with the participation of representatives from the executive and legislative branches of Central American and Central Asian countries. According to the participants, this dialogue could cover a wide range of pressing topics — from economic cooperation and investment partnerships to environmental issues, sustainable development, and humanitarian exchanges.
A key focus of the discussions was the idea of creating a multilateral platform — a "bridge-hub" — between Uzbekistan and the countries of Central America. This platform would aim to foster regular contacts, experience sharing, and the implementation of joint projects across various sectors.
The meeting also touched on cooperation in the field of renewable energy. The Central American side shared its experience in green energy, particularly in the use of hydro, solar, and geothermal sources. Both sides expressed strong interest in exchanging technologies and carrying out joint initiatives in this strategically important area.
As a result of the meeting, an agreement was reached to begin preparatory work for launching an interregional cooperation mechanism, with the identification of promising areas of engagement.
