As of 1 July 2026, Uzbekistan's permanent resident population, excluding the results of the national population census, stood at 38,519,500, according to the National Statistics Committee.

The report notes that the country's population growth rate has continued to slow for the third consecutive year, declining from 2.1 percent in 2024 to 2.0 percent in 2025, and 1.7 percent in 2026.

Of the total population, 19.1 million people (49.6 percent) are women and 19.4 million (50.4 percent) are men. Urban residents account for 19.6 million people (50.9 percent), while 18.9 million (49.1 percent) live in rural areas.

The national population density reached 85.8 people per square kilometer, an increase of 1.5 people per square kilometer compared with the same period in 2025, when it stood at 84.3 people per square kilometer.

Between January and June 2026, 373,400 live births were registered, with a crude birth rate of 19.6 births per 1,000 population. Compared with the same period of 2025, the number of births decreased by 32,100.

Of all newborns, 192,900 (51.7 percent) were boys and 180,500 (48.3 percent) were girls. 182,900 births (49 percent) occurred in urban areas, while 190,500 births (51 percent) were recorded in rural areas.

During the first half of the year, 86,900 deaths were registered, corresponding to a crude mortality rate of 4.6 deaths per 1,000 population. Compared with the same period in 2025, the number of deaths increased by 2,800.

Of the total number of deaths, 48,300 (55.6 percent) were men and 38,600 (44.4 percent) were women. 47,300 people (54.4 percent) lived in urban areas, while 39,600 (45.6 percent) resided in rural areas.

During the first six months of the year, 18.5 million arrivals were recorded across Uzbekistan. Of these, 18.3 million were movements from other regions of the country, while 1,649 people arrived from abroad.

During the same period, 18.9 million departures were registered, including 18.3 million moves to other regions within Uzbekistan and 5,422 people who left the country for destinations abroad.
