Tashkent Region Enhances Economic Cooperation with Regional Partners in Spain

The visit of the delegation of the Tashkent Region to Spain, headed by Governor Zoir Mirzaev, marked an important milestone in the development of Uzbek-Spanish economic cooperation.
As part of the visit program, a large-scale business forum, B2B negotiations, and meetings with representatives of municipal authorities and leading Spanish companies in the fields of agribusiness, greenhouse farming, and innovative technologies were held in the region of Galicia.
The key event of the visit was the “Uzbekistan–Galicia” business forum, organized in the city of Vigo with the support of the Vigo Chamber of Commerce. The event brought together official representatives of both countries, executives of more than 20 Spanish companies, investors, business leaders, and representatives of industry associations.
The forum was opened by José García Costa, who noted in his remarks that relations between Uzbekistan and Spain have been developing dynamically in recent years, while the growing level of mutual trust creates a solid foundation for expanding trade and economic cooperation.
Farrukh Tursunov, Ambassador of Uzbekistan to Spain, emphasized that political and economic ties between the two countries are reaching a qualitatively new level. By the end of 2025, bilateral trade turnover between Uzbekistan and Spain reached USD 96 million, demonstrating steady positive growth.
Addressing the forum participants, Governor Zoir Mirzaev expressed gratitude to the Spanish side for the warm hospitality and underlined the region’s strong interest in building long-term practical partnerships with Spanish companies.
During the presentation of the investment potential of the Tashkent Region, promising areas of cooperation were introduced, including the establishment of modern greenhouse complexes, fish farming, deep processing of fruit and vegetable products, viticulture, the introduction of advanced agricultural technologies, as well as joint projects in the production of construction materials and kaolin processing.
Special attention during the forum was devoted to industrial cooperation and technology exchange. As emphasized by Governor Mirzaev, the Tashkent Region is interested not only in expanding export-import operations, but also in establishing joint manufacturing facilities, introducing innovative solutions, and developing sustainable long-term investment projects.
B2B meetings and negotiations were held within the framework of the forum, covering a wide range of sectors, including aquaculture and fish processing, greenhouse farming, mushroom cultivation, livestock farming, logistics, agricultural processing, as well as the textile and food industries.
Following the negotiations, preliminary agreements were reached with Feeding Systems S.L. on the implementation of a fish farming cluster project in the Tashkent Region. The parties agreed to continue discussions on the technical and financial parameters of cooperation, with the subsequent signing of a memorandum in Madrid.
In addition, Governor Zoir Mirzaev held separate meetings with executives and representatives of leading Spanish companies operating in winemaking, greenhouse technologies, food processing equipment, textiles, automotive components, environmental technologies, and dairy production.
An important part of the visit was the meeting of the Tashkent Region delegation with Mayor Tomiño, Uxía Benítez.
The meeting was also attended by Ambassador Farrukh Tursunov and Muzaffar Rashidov, Governor of Kibray District.
During the talks, the parties discussed prospects for cooperation in greenhouse farming, knowledge exchange, and the implementation of advanced agricultural technologies. The Uzbek side expressed particular interest in the experience of Tomiño, which is considered one of the leading centers of greenhouse farming and agribusiness in Galicia.
Tomiño is also recognized as one of Spain’s most progressive municipalities in sustainable development, the implementation of green technologies, energy-efficient solutions, and agricultural support. Both sides expressed interest in further developing direct contacts and exchanging best practices.
As part of the visit, the delegation also visited Ferralesa, a Spanish company specializing in modern greenhouse complexes. The company operates greenhouse facilities covering a total area of 5 hectares. During talks with CEO Fernando Otero Villarino, the parties discussed the introduction of advanced greenhouse technologies and opportunities for joint projects in Uzbekistan.
The delegation also reviewed innovative geothermal heating and cooling systems for greenhouse operations offered by EcoForest. During the meeting, company representative Julián Tavernier provided a detailed presentation on the technical capabilities and economic efficiency of these solutions.
According to the Spanish side, the use of geothermal technologies significantly reduces heating and electricity costs, while the full payback period for such projects is estimated at 4–5 years.
The parties also discussed the possibility of implementing a pilot project in the Tashkent Region on a 1-hectare site with the installation of a modern geothermal heating and cooling system. Representatives of EcoForest expressed strong interest in the practical implementation of this initiative.
Within the framework of the business forum, a cooperation agreement was also signed between the Vigo Chamber of Commerce and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Tashkent Region, which will serve as an additional mechanism for developing direct business contacts between the regions of the two countries.
At the conclusion of the visit, both sides expressed confidence that the agreements reached, the contacts established, and the initiatives put forward would create a solid foundation for the implementation of new joint investment projects and the further strengthening of economic cooperation between Uzbekistan and Spain.
