The new Secretary-General of the UN Tourism will pay a visit to Uzbekistan

At the headquarters of UN Tourism in Madrid, a meeting was held between the newly appointed Secretary-General Shaikha Nasser Al Nowais and the ambassadors of the Organization’s European region, including the countries of Central Asia.
During her presentation, the Secretary-General outlined her vision and priorities for work in the European region, emphasizing the importance of developing sustainable and inclusive tourism, advancing digitalization in the tourism sector, and strengthening international cooperation in the field of tourism.
In a brief conversation with the Ambassador of Uzbekistan to Spain and Permanent Representative of the country to UN Tourism, Farrukh Tursunov, the current state of bilateral cooperation and plans for its further enhancement were discussed. The main topics included promoting Uzbekistan’s tourism potential and attracting investment into the tourism sector.
The Secretary-General highly praised Uzbekistan’s achievements in tourism development, noting that they are the result of a well-considered and forward-looking policy of the country’s leadership, opening new opportunities for Uzbekistan on the international stage.
Special attention was given to the “Silk Road” Regional Office in Samarkand. It was noted that the office will serve as an important international platform for the exchange of experience, research, educational and cultural projects, as well as for promoting Uzbekistan’s rich historical and tourism heritage.
At the conclusion of the meeting, an agreement was reached to organize an official visit of the UN Tourism Secretary-General to Uzbekistan in the near future. “Uzbekistan is a beautiful country. I have long dreamed of visiting it and hope that this dream will soon come true,” Al Nowais stated.
