Uzbekistan and Spain discuss visa facilitation and labor migration cooperation

On January 27, a meeting was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs with the Chargé d’Affaires ad interim of the Embassy of Spain in Uzbekistan (with residence in Moscow), María Asunción Sánchez Ruiz, the Dunyo News Agency reports.
According to the Consular and Legal Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan continues systematic efforts to diversify migration flows and expand the geographical scope of labor migration for citizens of Uzbekistan. In this context, Spain is considered one of the promising destinations.
During the talks, the parties discussed current consular issues, as well as prospects for simplifying visa procedures and developing cooperation in the field of labor migration.
Within the framework of the meeting, the Spanish side was invited to consider the possibility of signing an intergovernmental Agreement on Mobility and Migration, launching a pilot project to attract labor migrants from Uzbekistan to the agricultural and construction sectors, as well as including Uzbekistan in Spain’s organized recruitment system for foreign workers, “contratación en origen” (GECCO).
The parties expressed their readiness to deepen bilateral cooperation and coordination between the relevant authorities of Uzbekistan and Spain, and noted the prospects for further cooperation, including in the field of migration.
