Uzbekistan and Spain take their agricultural partnership to a new level

The 122nd session of the International Olive Council was held in the Spanish city of Córdoba, with the participation of a delegation from Uzbekistan led by the Minister of Agriculture, Ibrokhim Abdurakhmanov, the Dunyo News Agency correspondent reports.
On the sidelines of the event, a meeting was held with Spain’s Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, Luis Planas Puchades.
The two sides discussed practical proposals for introducing modern technologies in agriculture, improving efficiency amid water scarcity, and expanding the exchange of expertise.
Uzbekistan’s potential in horticulture and vegetable production was presented in detail, with particular emphasis on cherry cultivation. The need for plant varieties resistant to salinity, water shortages, and the region’s climatic conditions was also highlighted.
The Spanish side, in turn, expressed its readiness to share experience in precision irrigation, CRISPR-based plant breeding, the development of agricultural insurance systems, as well as educational and scientific infrastructure.
During the meeting, agreements were reached to expand cooperation in the development of cooperatives, modernization of agro-processing, and improvement of export infrastructure. A separate focus of the discussion was the interest of Spanish businesses in investing in olive cultivation in Uzbekistan.
The sides also exchanged views on enhancing inter-institutional cooperation and identifying new joint initiatives ahead of future state visits.
As a result of the talks, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed, marking an important step toward elevating agricultural cooperation between the two countries to a new level.
