Uzbekistan Delegation Participates in Annual Session of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly in Portugal

According to the Dunyo Information Agency, the 32nd Annual Session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE PA) is taking place in the Portuguese city of Porto from June 29 to July 3.
According to the Information Service of the Upper House of Parliament, more than 200 parliamentarians from North America, Europe, and Central Asia are participating in the event.
The delegation of Uzbekistan is taking part in the session under the leadership of the First Deputy Chairman of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis, Sodiq Safoyev.
At the opening ceremony, OSCE PA President Pia Kauma delivered a speech in which she praised the large-scale reforms being implemented in Uzbekistan and the country’s active role on the international stage. It was noted that the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights gave a positive assessment of the recent parliamentary elections in Uzbekistan, recognizing that they were held in accordance with international standards.
As part of the session, the Uzbekistan delegation held a meeting with OSCE PA Secretary General Roberto Montella. During the discussion, both parties exchanged views on the prospects for further strengthening cooperation between Uzbekistan and the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly.
The delegation also participated in a consultative meeting with the OSCE PA Special Representative for Central Asia, Farimah Karimi, and representatives of parliaments from the region. The meeting focused on the establishment of a Central Asian parliamentary group within the OSCE PA framework and on enhancing regional dialogue.
In addition, the Uzbekistan delegation took part in a session of the Silk Road Group, during which prospects for regional cooperation were discussed. The delegation proposed hosting an academic event in Uzbekistan under the framework of the Silk Road Group. An agreement was reached to develop practical steps for implementing this initiative.
The participation of the Uzbekistan delegation in the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly session will continue until July 3.
