Uzbekistan Strengthens Ties with Spanish Regions

Uzbekistan’s Ambassador, Farrukh Tursunov, visited the autonomous community of Galicia, where he held meetings with key representatives of the regional administration and executives of leading companies. The discussions focused on prospects for bilateral cooperation.
During a meeting with Diego Calvo, Advisor to the President of Galicia, the Spanish side highly appreciated the scale of reforms being implemented in Uzbekistan and expressed readiness to strengthen bilateral ties. Special attention was given to cooperation in agriculture, light industry, automotive manufacturing, petrochemicals, pharmaceuticals, as well as tourism and labor migration.
The presidential advisor noted Galicia’s interest in establishing closer cooperation with Uzbekistan. An agreement was reached to promote Uzbekistan’s tourism potential, particularly in light of the launch of direct flights between Tashkent and Madrid.
In a meeting with Óscar García, CEO of Inditex, the sides discussed opportunities to establish joint textile production. The Uzbek side presented the sector’s competitive advantages, including its resource base, preferential policies, and logistical capacity. A proposal was made to develop pilot projects for placing orders at modern production facilities in Uzbekistan and creating new capacities using sustainable production technologies.
Inditex expressed interest in expanding its supply chain by creating a logistics hub in Uzbekistan, which would help optimize logistics and reduce production costs. The Spanish side emphasized that Uzbekistan is seen as a promising market for sustainable textile manufacturing.
As part of the visit, negotiations were also held with José Enrique Rodríguez, CEO of Rodriguez Lopez Auto. The primary focus of the discussion was the development of Uzbekistan’s emergency medical services. The company expressed interest in negotiating a pilot project to establish joint production of modern medical vehicles, with potential for export to neighboring countries. The possibility of training Uzbek specialists for this initiative was also considered.
