The President of Uzbekistan and the Amir of Qatar agreed to bring bilateral relations to the strategic partnership level
The President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev met with the Amir of the State of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.
The President of Uzbekistan sincerely congratulated the Amir and the friendly people of Qatar on their national holiday – Independence Day.
In turn, the Amir of Qatar thanked the Leader of Uzbekistan for the high-level organization of the International Anti-Corruption Excellence Award ceremony in Tashkent and the warm hospitality.
Issues of further strengthening the political dialogue and enhancing trade, economic, investment, cultural, and humanitarian cooperation between the two countries were discussed.
The ongoing intensive contacts and exchanges at all levels were noted with satisfaction. This year, diplomatic missions of the two countries opened in Tashkent and Doha. The trade turnover is growing, and the implementation of significant projects has begun with the participation of leading Qatar companies.
Particular attention was paid to promoting new joint investment projects, particularly in green energy, industry, agriculture, infrastructure development, the banking and financial sector, education, healthcare, and tourism.
Ways to further enhance collaboration in transport and logistics were considered. In particular, the Qatari side expressed full support for the Trans-Afghan Railway construction project.
The importance of organizing the first meetings of the joint Intergovernmental Commission, Business Council, and Business Forum in February 2024 in Doha was emphasized.
The parties also discussed issues of holding cultural and humanitarian events next year.
The leaders of Uzbekistan and Qatar supported the creation of a Coordination Council at the level of the heads of the foreign affairs departments of the two countries to ensure the timely implementation of agreements.
The initiative of the President of Uzbekistan to create a Regional Anti-Corruption Center in Uzbekistan under the auspices of the UN was supported.
Views were also exchanged on current issues on the international and regional agenda.
