The President visits the tourism industry exhibition
President Shavkat Mirziyoyev got acquainted with the exhibition of the tourism potential of Uzbekistan, organized at the “The Great Silk Road” International Tourist Center in Samarkand.
As previously reported, Samarkand hosts the 25th session of the UNWTO General Assembly. The organization of this summit was a recognition of the open-door policy pursued in Uzbekistan and its enormous tourism potential.
Thus, favorable tourism development opportunities are being created in the country. A visa-free regime has been introduced for citizens of about 100 countries, and a simplified procedure for issuing an electronic visa has been established for citizens of another 55 countries.
The tourism infrastructure is developing, and the number of hotels, tourist destinations, and routes is growing. This year alone, 15 thousand new hotel beds have been created, and their total number has reached 140 thousand. 540 recreational facilities have been built, and 70 tourist routes have been opened. 6 private airlines began operating.
President Shavkat Mirziyoyev noted the presence of significant untapped potential and emphasized that the main summit of the World Tourism Organization is an excellent opportunity to demonstrate this.
The exhibition presents the tourism and investment potential of 14 regions of the country: the possibilities of such picturesque corners as Zaamin, Charvak, Chimgan, and other recreational areas, tourist villages, and ecological and extreme tourism locations.
Stands of the Tourism Committee, Uzbekistan Airways, Uzbekistan Airports, and Uzbekistan Helicopters are organized. Part of the exhibition is dedicated to the tourism potential of Central Asian states and startup projects implemented jointly with foreign partners.
During the exhibition, promising projects worth $2 billion will be presented to investors.
The President of Uzbekistan toured the exhibition pavilions together with the Secretary-General of the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) Zurab Pololikashvili. Responsible persons were instructed to create tourist facilities around landmark locations in the regions, expand the conditions for visiting them, and form a portfolio of specific investment projects.
