The Ambassador of Uzbekistan to Spain, Farrukh Tursunov, paid a working visit to the Autonomous Community of Galicia, one of Spain's most economically advanced and export-oriented regions.
The centerpiece of the visit was a roundtable discussion hosted by the Círculo de Empresarios de Galicia (Galicia Business Circle), an organization representing around 400 leading companies and business associations in the region, under the chairmanship of its President, María Borrás.
During his presentation, the Ambassador outlined Uzbekistan's ongoing large-scale economic reforms, the country's favorable investment climate, the benefits of the GSP+ trade regime, and opportunities for joint projects in industry, pharmaceuticals, agribusiness, infrastructure, renewable energy, logistics, and tourism.
In turn, Pedro Mouriño, Chief Executive Officer of Iberatlantic Global Corporation, emphasized the strategic importance of expanding cooperation between Spain and the countries of Central Asia and encouraged Galician businesses to make greater use of the new opportunities emerging in the Uzbek market.
The practical part of the event took the form of an open dialogue, allowing representatives of Galicia's leading companies to discuss directly with the Ambassador key issues related to doing business in Uzbekistan. Particular interest was shown in the country's investment climate, the operation of its special economic zones, and other aspects of the business environment. The Ambassador provided comprehensive answers to all questions, reaffirming Uzbekistan's openness to long-term international cooperation, production localization, technology transfer, and the implementation of mutually beneficial investment projects.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the parties agreed to organize a business mission to Uzbekistan this autumn involving leading Galician companies, with the possible participation of representatives of the regional government of Galicia.
As part of the visit, the Ambassador also toured the headquarters of Spain's leading biopharmaceutical group, Grupo Zendal, where he held talks with the company's Chief Executive Officer, Andrés Fernández. The company's management expressed interest in localizing production in Uzbekistan and confirmed its readiness to participate in the upcoming business mission, including visits to the country's pharmaceutical clusters.
Special attention was also devoted to cooperation in the field of aquaculture. During a visit to the production facilities of Feeding Systems S.L., the company's management reaffirmed its interest in expanding its presence in the Uzbek market. It is noteworthy that the company has already participated in international business forums organized by the Embassy of Uzbekistan in Madrid and Vigo and has signed a cooperation agreement with the Tashkent Regional Administration to implement a modern fish farming project.
The final event of the program was a visit to the production facilities of Ecoforest, one of Europe's leading manufacturers of geothermal technologies and energy-efficient heating and cooling systems. During the discussions, the Ambassador proposed exploring the application of the company's geothermal solutions in the construction of modern greenhouse complexes in Uzbekistan. It was noted that these technologies could significantly improve energy efficiency, reduce operating costs, and minimize environmental impact. Ecoforest confirmed its readiness to develop a pilot project for one of Uzbekistan's greenhouse complexes upon receiving the necessary technical and geological data.
The agreements reached create favorable conditions for attracting advanced Spanish technologies and investment to Uzbekistan, launching new joint projects in the pharmaceutical industry, aquaculture, agribusiness, and green energy, while further strengthening trade and economic cooperation between Uzbekistan and Spain.
