The premiere of the film “The Great Amir and Donna Maria” was successfully held in Madrid

The premiere of the feature film “The Great Amir and Donna Maria” by Uzbek filmmakers was held at the Palacio de Hielo cinema in the Spanish capital.
The screening was organized by the Embassy in cooperation with the Cinematography Agency of the Republic of Uzbekistan, with the support of the centre Casa Asia, which plays an important role in fostering dialogue between Spain and Asian countries.
The event brought together members of the diplomatic corps, cultural figures, and the general public. The film was presented as part of an international cultural project marking the 690th anniversary of the birth of Amir Temur.
In his speech, the Ambassador of Uzbekistan, Farrukh Tursunov, emphasized that the project reflects historical ties between Uzbekistan and Spain dating back to the era of Amir Temur, as well as the development of diplomatic relations during that period.
The screenwriter, renowned writer Khayriddin Sultanov, noted that the film is the result of many years of work by an international creative team involving specialists from different countries. He also highlighted the symbolic significance of holding the premiere in Spain, recalling the centuries-old connections between the two countries, including the visit of the Castilian envoy Ruy González de Clavijo to the court of Amir Temur.
According to the author, the film’s artistic concept is based on a combination of historical sources and creative interpretation, focusing on themes of freedom, human dignity, and mutual respect between cultures. Special attention is also given to a contemporary storyline exploring the importance of historical memory and its influence on personal identity formation.
During the event, the film’s director Yelkin Toichiev and the lead actress Jessica May, who plays Donna Maria, also addressed the audience. They expressed their gratitude to the project’s creators and noted that participating in such a large-scale international production was a great honor.
The premiere took place in a warm and friendly atmosphere. The audience highly praised the film, highlighting its deep historical context, strong performances, and the relevance of its themes.
