Tashkent to Bring Together Leaders to Seek Solutions to Central Asia’s Water Scarcity

On March 25–26, the capital of Uzbekistan will host the International Forum Tashkent Water Week 2026, according to the IA “Dunyo”.
As noted by the organizers, Central Asia is facing a growing shortage of water resources caused by climate change, increasing demand for water supply and irrigation. At the same time, rising water demand to meet population needs and support economic growth is placing additional pressure on the agricultural sector, requiring the rational use of water resources. Under these conditions, effective and sustainable water resource management becomes a strategic priority, directly influencing the strengthening of regional cooperation and the role of Central Asia in the global water cycle.
A response to these challenges will be provided by the International Forum Tashkent Water Week 2026, which will take place on March 25–26, 2026, in Tashkent. Initiated and organized by the Government of Uzbekistan for the first time in this format, the forum will offer a unique platform for exchanging experience, discussing innovative approaches, and developing joint water management strategies.
The forum program, titled “Technologies and Innovations in Water Resource Management: Central Asia and the Global Water Cycle,” will focus on high-level plenary and panel sessions. Key discussions will address water and sustainable development, building trust, and finding joint solutions. Special attention will be given to transboundary water exchange and interstate coordination, as well as sustainable water use and the development of agricultural systems.
Participants will examine technological and digital innovations in water supply, global trends and key challenges in water resource management, the role of water in ensuring food security, and the development of cross-sectoral cooperation. Topics will also include the implementation of green standards, rational land use, human capital development, and training of qualified professionals for the water sector.
Complementing the main strategic agenda, the week will also host the Tashkent Conference on Water Security and an Academic Competition — the International Subject Olympiad on water management disciplines, strengthening the link between strategic dialogue, scientific expertise, and the development of a new generation of industry professionals.
Tashkent Water Week 2026 will bring together government bodies, international organizations, leading scientists, businesses, and the expert community, providing a platform to discuss transboundary water security challenges, showcase innovative management and technological solutions, and develop practical strategies for the efficient use of water resources. The forum aims to strengthen regional cooperation and promote sustainable water use models to ensure long-term water and economic development in Central Asia.
In recent years, countries of the region have hosted international conferences, consultative meetings, and expert dialogues dedicated to the rational use and protection of water resources. In this context, Tashkent Water Week 2026 is intended to complement and further develop existing formats of cooperation by creating a multilateral platform for sharing experience and discussing modern approaches to water management at both regional and global levels.
