Spain is interested in establishing cooperation with Uzbekistan in agricultural production

A meeting was held at the Embassy of Uzbekistan with the Director of the Spanish company New Greenhouses Projects S.L., José Miguel Rincón.
The main focus of the talks was the discussion of opportunities to introduce advanced Spanish greenhouse technologies in the Surkhandarya and Kashkadarya regions of Uzbekistan, following the example of Almería, one of the world’s leading centers of highly efficient greenhouse farming.
Taking into account the director’s more than 30 years of experience in the agricultural sector, the parties thoroughly discussed priority areas of potential cooperation. These include the construction of modern greenhouse complexes using Spanish engineering solutions, as well as the establishment of a systematic training and professional development program for Uzbekistan’s agricultural specialists. In addition, the parties discussed engaging Spanish agronomists and technologists in managing production processes during the initial stage of greenhouse operations.
Special attention was paid to energy supply issues for greenhouse facilities. The director noted that the latest hydrogen-based technologies are currently being активно developed on the international market as an alternative to traditional fuels (gas and coal) for greenhouse heating. In his assessment, the production and use of hydrogen represent one of the most economically efficient and environmentally sustainable solutions for replacing gas boilers in the medium term.
The head of the Spanish company also emphasized the feasibility of applying Spain’s producer cooperation model in Uzbekistan. According to him, such a model would help reduce costs for fuel, fertilizers, and technical resources through economies of scale, improve logistics and marketing efficiency, enhance the formation of export batches of fruit and vegetable products, and strengthen the negotiating position of Uzbek producers in foreign markets.
The parties separately discussed personnel training. An agreement was reached to explore the possibility of concluding a cooperation agreement with the Spanish training center Bicore. The initiative envisages the organization of training and professional development programs for Uzbek agronomists and technical specialists. At the first stage, training for up to 50 specialists is being considered, with a gradual expansion of the program in the future.
Following the negotiations, José Rincón expressed his readiness to visit the Surkhandarya and Kashkadarya regions in the near future to hold meetings and conferences with local farmers, as well as to review potential sites for the construction of greenhouse complexes.
The head of the Spanish company expressed confidence that, through joint efforts, Uzbekistan will create its own Almería.
