At a meeting held on January 15, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev particularly emphasized the need to enhance consular services, modernize diplomatic missions, and ensure prompt and high-quality assistance to citizens. What is the Consular Service?

The consular service is a system of official assistance provided by the state to its citizens who permanently or temporarily reside outside the country. It is carried out through diplomatic missions and consular offices and includes the following areas:

• issuance of passports and other documents;

• registration of civil status acts (birth, marriage, death);

• provision of notarial services and legalization of documents;

• legal consultations;

• assistance in emergency situations.

Simply put, the consular service is a reliable “bridge” connecting citizens abroad with their state.

What is Consular Registration?

Consular registration is the official registration of citizens staying abroad at an embassy or consulate. By registering, a citizen provides basic personal information to the consular office, enabling it to promptly establish contact if necessary.

Consular registration is divided into two types:

• permanent consular registration – for citizens residing abroad on a long-term or permanent basis;

• temporary consular registration – for citizens traveling abroad for a limited period for study, work, medical treatment, or family reasons.

For example, if you are working abroad and lose your passport, consular registration allows consular staff to quickly issue a temporary document for your return home using existing data. Without registration, this process may take significantly longer and require additional verification.

In emergency situations—such as earthquakes, political instability, or security threats—citizens registered with the consulate can be promptly informed, evacuated to safe areas, and provided with medical or other necessary assistance.

One of the most common issues concerns citizenship registration for children born abroad. Registering a child’s birth through a consulate ensures timely оформление of citizenship and helps avoid future documentation problems.

How to Register with a Consulate?

• by personal application at the Embassy or Consulate of the Republic of Uzbekistan in the host country;

• passport details, residential address, and contact information are required;

• citizens are advised to inform the consulate when changing residence or returning home.
