The President of Uzbekistan highly appreciates the achieved level of multifaceted cooperation with the UNWTO
On October 16, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev received the Secretary-General of the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) Zurab Pololikashvili, who is visiting Uzbekistan as part of the 25th session of the UNWTO General Assembly, in Samarkand.
Issues of further enhancing multifaceted cooperation with the specified UN specialized institute for building the tourism potential of Uzbekistan were considered.
The unprecedented high level of cooperation achieved with UNWTO, which has become a strategic partner of Uzbekistan in reforming the tourism industry, was noted with deep satisfaction.
The joint efforts to popularize the “Tourism on the Silk Road” brand were highly appreciated, including implementing programs and projects aimed at developing tourism infrastructure, popularizing tourism destinations in the country, and training qualified personnel.
Significant practical results of interaction were the holding of the anniversary session of the UNWTO General Assembly in Uzbekistan, the opening within its framework of the International Tourism Academy, and the Thematic Office “Silk Road” in the city of Samarkand.
The UNWTO Secretary-General expressed sincere gratitude to the President of Uzbekistan for his assistance in preparing and organizing at a high level the leading international event of the tourism industry this year.
It was emphasized that participating in the forum of high-level delegations representing over 140 countries indicates a growing interest in Uzbekistan as one of the global and regional tourism centers.
Investment and educational forums with the participation of leading companies, universities, and tourism industry organizations will also be held as part of the General Assembly. Based on their results, signing contracts and agreements to implement joint programs and projects in these areas is expected.
Following the meeting, an agreement was reached to adopt a joint action plan to implement the main results of the anniversary session.
