The President of Uzbekistan notes the importance of further enhancing multifaceted collaboration with UN institutions
On August 18, the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev received a United Nations delegation led by the Assistant Secretary-General for Europe, Central Asia and the Americas at the Department of Political and Peacebuilding Affairs – Department of Peace Operations, Miroslav Jenča.
Issues of further enhancing multifaceted collaboration with the UN institutions and centers within the framework of implementing the long-term Sustainable Development Goals were discussed.
High Representative Miroslav Jenča conveyed to the President of Uzbekistan the sincere greetings and best wishes of the Secretary-General of the organization, António Guterres. It was emphasized that the UN structures are ready to continue supporting the program of irreversible reforms for building New Uzbekistan in every possible way.
It should be noted that in recent years, mutually beneficial cooperation between Uzbekistan and the UN has reached an unprecedented high level. About 140 programs and projects are being jointly implemented. At the initiative of the Uzbek side, 6 resolutions of the General Assembly of the United Nations were adopted.
Uzbekistan actively participates in the activities of the Human Rights Council, the Commission of the Economic and Social Council, the UNESCO World Heritage Committee, and many other structures.
Only in the second half of this year, several significant international events are planned to be held in Uzbekistan within the framework of the UN, particularly the FAO Conference on Food Security and the 25th session of the UNWTO General Assembly.
The prospects for practical interaction in implementing national tasks and goals in sustainable development were considered at the meeting.
The primary attention was paid to the issues of deepening the relations of good neighborliness and partnership in Central Asia and strengthening the role of the UN Regional Centre for Preventive Diplomacy in this process.
